IGNOU Contribution in Open Distance Learning
Indira Gandhi National Open University knowns for providing open distance learning to not only in our country but abroad as well . It has continuously striven to build an inclusive knowledge society through inclusive education. At the beginning the institution provided two academic programes i.e., Diploma in Management and Diploma in Distance Education, with a strength of 4,528 students. in 1987.
With 21 Schools of Studies, a network of 67 Regional Centers, almost 2,000 Learner Support Centers, and 20 international institutions, it currently supports the academic goals of more than 3 million students in India and other nations. With nearly 250 faculty members, 230 academic staff at the headquarters and regional centers, and more than 35,000 academic counselors from traditional higher education institutions, professional associations, and industry, among others, the university offers roughly 200 certificate, diploma, degree, and doctorate programs.Using cutting-edge technologies and methodologies, the Indira Gandhi National Open University, the National Resource Center for Open and Distance Learning, which has international recognition and presence, will ensure that everyone has easy access to learner-centered, sustainable, high-quality education, skill development, and training. It will also ensure that existing systems for large-scale human resource development come together, which is necessary for fostering integrated national development and global understanding.
The University has had a major impact on community education, higher education, and ongoing professional development. In order to improve the educational opportunities it provides, the university has been collaborating with reputable public and private organizations. The Commonwealth of Learning (COL), Canada, has recognized it with awards of excellence, recognizing it as a global leader in distant education.
The University has ushered in a new age of technology-enabled education in the nation with the launch of EduSat, a satellite solely focused on education, on September 20, 2004, and the formation of the Inter-University Consortium. Active two-way video-conferencing network link has been made available to all regional centers and high enrollment Learners Support, enabling the exchange of interactive digital content.
In the context of integrated distance and online learning, the focus is now on creating interactive multimedia and online learning, as well as enhancing the traditional manner of delivering distance education with contemporary technology-enabled instruction.
IGNOU has fulfilled the nation's expectations over the years to educate the underprivileged segments of society. All incarcerated individuals nationwide are receiving free schooling. Numerous SC/ST students have been accepted into the university's various programs, and attempts have also been made to connect with those employed by the nation's armed forces and security forces.
